Singapore’s official afterhours party Midnight Shift celebrates its third wave and 1st year anniversary on Saturday, September 18th 2010 at our island’s clubbing destination, Stereolab.

Winding up the engines, we start our personal new year race in the pumping atmosphere of party central, Stereolab. Taking us through the night is a great Mystery Legend hailing from the promised land of Detroit. A label owner with a vocalist wife, he is a man who helped bridge the House and Techno worlds with unapologetic grit and full-baring soul. If you know his name, spread the word far and wide.

THE HOTTEST LOCAL ACTS GETS TOGETHER AFTER MIDNIGHT...

Our international juggernaut is supported by two of the most promising local heroes to have emerged in the last two decades. The first is Xhin, now a European favourite charted by anyone from Laurent Garnier to Speedy J. He flies the Singapore flag high. The second is a DJ still admired for what he began decades ago: Jonathan Yeo. The DJ to jump-start other DJs’ careers, he plays for the first time in several years.

Make a U-turn at Stereolounge, where Funk Bastard, Kaye, Edward and Ko Flow take you back to the old school with the foundations of funk and soul. With this honorific line up, the three-point triangle meets; the full circle is now complete.

The most down to earth party in Singapore takes you off to the highest point in the country, 282 meters up to be exact, for an all red party that's got all the right drivers for a race through sound and music.

Featuring French-Vietnamese duo, Tha Trickaz, fresh off the monster-ramped Tony Hawke Show in Paris; and supported by fab local acts like Syndicate, Cosa Nostra, J Styles, Syafii & Krumbs - Bedsty's Red Alert: TOUCH THE SKY will be in the usual eclectic style of Bedsty, except that they have upped the ante by 63 floors taking their very grounded good times to higher levels at 1-Altitude.

Headlining the party are Tha Trickaz from Paris, France. Self-labelled “Tha Vietnamists” and life-long friends, Pho & DJ iRaize, who founded the group over eight years ago, based on a mutual need to push musical boundaries as well as their own technical limits.

Their live performances best illustrate the magic of combined imagination: rare and traditional vinyl cut up with sampling, scratching, analog instruments, live musicians & the MPC real time drumming. All this combined with killer beats to shake the floor!

THE LOCAL MOTION

Leading the homegrown talents is Cherry Chan of local collective Syndicate, who describes her eclectic style as somewhere between quirky, dreamy, dark and dubby. “An unsuspecting innocent crowd see this sweet girl who’ll feed them coconut ice cream feel good music first – then as they get drunker, the ragga reggae comes on and before they know it, they are letting loose to dubstep and glitch hop."

Tha Trickaz and Cherry are supported by DJ + Sax duo, Cosa Nostra, and Bedsty DJs Krumbs, Syafii and former DMC Singapore Champion DJ J Styles.

...Forget diamonds - one Swiss watchmaker is betting on watches made from moon dust, parts of the Apollo 11 rocket and bits of spacesuits to capture consumer cash as an economic slow down bites.More than 600 watchmakers have the Swiss brand stamp, so Geneva-based Romain Jerome aims to use "inaccessible materials" to set its products apart from rivals such as Richemont's Vacheron Constantin and independent watchmaker Patek Philippe.

...The watches' dials, which feature tiny craters, will have dust in them from the moon rock that was taken from the first visit to the Earth's satellite. Steel from the Apollo 11 space shuttle will be used for the case and the strap will be made up of fibers from a spacesuit worn during the ISS mission.

...The group will make 1969 watches - matching the year of Neil Armstrong's and Buzz Aldrin's first journey to the moon - for the "Moon Dust-DNA" collection. The watches, which start at $US15,000 and can cost as much as $US500,000, will be launched in Geneva and presented to customers at next year's Baselworld, the largest annual fair for the watch and jewelry industry...

Alien Workshop is proud to introduce the initial, limited-edition collaboration offering with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc.

As the preeminent American artist of the 20th Century, Andy Warhol challenged the world to see art differently. This distinctive project presents a new approach to skateboard/artist collaborations by pairing unique examples of Warhol’s groundbreaking artwork with each of the ten iconoclast pro riders sponsored by Alien Workshop.

Featuring five pro decks with works from Warhol’s Death & Disaster Series and five pro decks showcasing his iconic Pop works, the complete set is shipped in custom printed board box packaging inspired by Warhol’s box sculptures from the 1960’s.

Each deck features full dip paint, top and bottom graphics and a collector deckwrap. The first Isle of Wight Festival took place only 11 days after Woodstock. And the he second Isle of Wight fest was one of the largest and most famous of these early festivals. "While studying textile design at FIT in Manhattan, Knuckles began working as a DJ, playing soul, disco and R&B at The Continental Baths with fellow DJ Larry Levan. When he became better known, he DJed at the club Better Days. When the Warehouse club opened in Chicago in 1977, he was invited to play on a regular basis. He continued DJing there until 1982, when he started his own club, The Power Plant. It is possible that the term 'House Music' surfaced in reference to the sounds played at the Warehouse by Frankie. Initially it was a catch-all term to describe the wide range of music being played at the Warehouse. It soon became the word used to define the raw, drum machine based edits and tracks that Frankie was playing in the early 80s."

First, you'll set the alarm. Then, when it goes off in the morning, you'll do what comes natural: you'll yell. Depending on what you chose earlier—and how responsible you're feeling—it will either turn off or snooze.

Which, in and of itself, would be a reason to check this out. But you'll also be able to set your alarm to go off when your phone gets to a certain geographical location. So let's say you're looking to catch some shut-eye on the train before a big morning meeting in, we'll say, Chicago. But since you want to give yourself time to freshen up, this thing can go off when you reach Peoria. (You wouldn't want to miss Peoria.) iWATCH

The iWatch is as fanciful a design as you could wish for. The concept timepiece is a wrist-sized iPhony, a tiny iPod Touch on a strap. It’s also gorgeous.

The design is from the Italian ADR Studio, and exists only in the world of Photoshop. The main screen, seen above, shows the time, date and weather (Rome’s looking very inviting this month). The gallery goes on to show the Bluetooth syncing options (to iPad and iPhone but not a computer, oddly) and a picture of the iWatch throwing a projected movie onto a wall (hell, it’s a concept design: why not dream a little?) Every continent can lay claim to its own unique and extraordinary features, but Asia owns two of the most impressive. It covers almost one-third of the Earth’s land surface and holds almost two-thirds of its human residents. So, when asked to represent this continent in the span of six songs, Tokyo, Japan’s DexPistols were rightly bemused. The duo of DJ Maar and DJ Daruma are known for ushering the modern wave of global club music in to their home city while playing alongside Daft Punk, the Ed Banger crew, Simian Mobile Disco, Crookers and Diplo throughout Asia. All this while heading up a successful streetwear brand and art collective. In the end, they took giant leaps to cover as much ground and represent as many people as possible, but their greatest feat was making it all sound totally crazy...

In 2009 it was awarded the “Little Nomad Prize“ at the Urban Nomad Filmfest in Taipei, Taiwan and it received the “Special Mention – Asian New Force“ at the Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards.
